Environment Home / Environment We Care About the Environment We at WorkSpace recognise the need for sustainable development and continually aim to improve the environmental effects of our activities and to achieve this we will ensure we meet all requirements to enable us to achieve ISO14001 accreditation status through the following: Establishing sound Environmental Management through: • Satisfactorily meeting or exceeding relative legislation, regulations and environmental codes of practice • Setting targets and objectives for environmental improvements and monitor these through regular review • Working to a continuous improvement strategy with regular management reviews • Ensure environmental issues are always considered in our decisions on processes and procedures when relevant • Implement and maintain relationships with our suppliers and contractors which allows us all to recognise and meet our environmental responsibilities. • Ensure staff are educated in Environmental awareness and responsibilities so all work is carried out in an environmentally responsible way. We will co-operate with the following to achieve these goals: • Local communities within which we operate both at a central office and at contractor sites • The Government, regulatory bodies, SEPA and other interested parties with the intent to control and manage the environs with respect. • Main contractor targets for control of environmental impacts during construction We will establish, maintain and minimise our impacts though: • Working to the Zero waste Scotland initiative, and promoting the ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ philosophy, exploring all alternative solutions and implementing them whenever economically viable. • Educate and promote the efficient use of resources, and energy efficiency within the organisation. • Working with environmentally aware and focused suppliers • Awareness and Preparedness for potential environmental emergencies Sustainable Procurement We, at WorkSpace (Scotland) LLP recognize that: • forests are essential for human survival and well-being. They are among the most biodiverse and valuable terrestrial ecosystems on the planet. They provide us with food, oxygen, shelter, recreation, and spiritual sustenance; and they contribute to the livelihoods of 1.6 billion people worldwide. The biodiversity of forests—the variety of genes, species, and forest ecosystems—underpins these goods and services, and is the basis for long-term forest health and stability. • promoting ways to use forest biodiversity in a sustainable way, and with clear social and economic benefits for the poor, is important. • forest certification provides evidence of sustainable forest management, yet at present, less than 10% of the world’s forests are certified. Mainstreaming forest certification systems (such as PEFC) will assist in promoting sustainable forest management. As a user of timber and wood-based products, WorkSpace (Scotland) LLP recognises that it has a responsibility to current and future generations and will therefore strive to promote sustainable forest management. By demanding products from sustainably managed forests, we aim to stimulate the improvement of forest management and discourage unsustainable management practices. We, WorkSpace (Scotland) LLP will give preference to suppliers who can demonstrate that their products originate from sustainably managed forests. We consider it important that the origin of our wood-based products can be demonstrated through credible, independent Chain of Custody certification based on international standards and norms. In this context, we recognize the global PEFC forest certification system, as well as other third-party verified certification systems based on similar principles, as evidence of responsible and sustainable sourcing Contact us Back to top
